Hootkey

Terms of use

Last updated 23 September 2026

Hootkey is licensed to you under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement. The notes below explain how the subscription works; they do not replace that agreement.

Free and paid

The block and the lessons are free and never expire. A subscription lets you set your own rules and adds the weekly report, controls from your phone, more family members and new lesson packs each month.

Subscriptions

  • A subscription is billed to your Apple Account, monthly or yearly, and covers everyone in your Family Sharing group.
  • It renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the next period within the 24 hours before it begins.
  • A free trial, where offered, turns into a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel before then.
  • Manage or cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Cancelling never leaves your child's device stuck: the block and the lessons carry on, and your rules go back to our defaults.

What Hootkey can and cannot do

Hootkey uses Apple's Screen Time framework. It works best with a child account in Family Sharing, and it cannot promise that a determined child will never find a way around a block — which is why it tells you when someone tries. Please use it alongside, not instead of, your own supervision.
